Black Pearl Sings!
Written by Frank Higgins. In 1936 Under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Works Progress Administration put scores of writers and journalists to work by documenting the biographical stories of black Americans who had been born into slavery. Susannah, a white researcher, finds Pearl on a rural Texas prison farm and records Pearl's voice. The Library of Congress takes immediate notice--turns out Pearl is quite a rare gem.
Together the two women set out on a journey to find their way out from the shadows of their own past all the way to New York City where the big city society waits to hear the last of the authentic black songstresses of the Old South.
